Playing with computers has interested me since I was A little and I played a lot of different computer games with my friends as a child. In secondary school times, I began to interest in more and more IT so I have plunged into the field. In the first year of the polytechnic, many of my friends were already actively programming and motivated by that, I got even deeper into the world of programming. Coding has been my passion since and I’ve always felt that it suits my personality and brings enough challenge to life.

I started my career in Java as soon as I graduated and after that, I switched to Python and Django. As the career progressed and the number of years of work accumulated, responsibilities also increased wildly; databases, optimizations, version control, and architectures have become really familiar over the years. The industry is constantly developing itself, so you get to learn new things all the time. That makes the work meaningful!

The move was ahead to the Helsinki area and I started looking for work opportunities here. I took the best options that were available from Southern Finland and Anders seemed to be the most interesting and attractive option for me. Anders’ solid and long experience with the Python programming language, as well as the Django platform, greatly influenced my choice, as I wanted to switch from Java back to the world of Python and Django.

I work in the City of Helsinki’s Service Map and Traffic Control Equipment Management System projects in the roles of technical project manager, architect, and leading developer. My job also includes sales support tasks together with the sales team.

I see that I work for Anders for a long time and I would like to develop my sales skills in particular. Through my tasks today, I have had experience in sales and this is my area of interest in the future as well. Communicating with customers has always been natural and meaningful to me.

Here is a really people-oriented and open culture here. The atmosphere is fair and everyone works in a good spirit – on top of all that, the team has really professional and knowledgeable people, which also makes working particularly motivating. You can also get lessons and help from your co-workers whenever you need to, and here you can feel free to ask about your co-workers.

Definitely the opening event of the summer – a joint picnic with co-workers! We spent time together in Helsinki’s Kaivopuisto, played woodpeckers, board games and enjoyed good food and drinks in the sunshine.

The best thing here is a flexible and appreciative attitude towards employees. Management is working well and I think the whole low hierarchy culture starts at the management level. In addition, we have managed to gather a great work community here, which is nice to work with.

There is a need to constantly learn new things in this field and to take bold action to solve problems. I try to read current news within the IT industry, do tech projects in my free time, where I try different technologies and also read books. I like to question things and boldly raise issues because it also allows me to learn a lot and do things even better.

Almost all of my free time is currently spent with a 1,5-year-old boy with whom we play a lot and go outdoors. The gym is also close to the heart, and I try to visit it actively every week. In the summer I cycle a lot and play tennis. In winter I like to ski and skate a lot.

There is only one answer to this: Python. I think this language is natural for me to work with, and I’ve used it for several years. The language is very versatile and can be used up to Enterprise level applications.

I recommend following your own passions and doing things you really like. At the moment, I think interesting languages ​​and technologies include Google Go, JetBrains Kotlin, UnityScript, and Svelte. The technologies of the frontend and backend world today follow their own ideologies. Thus it is worth initially focusing only on a few at a time.
